We all make excuses from time to time. It's human nature. But when we make excuses, we're essentially saying that we're not good enough or that we are not capable of achieving our goals. And that's simply not true.
Everyone has the potential to achieve great things. But in order to do that, we need to stop making excuses and start taking action.
A typical excuse can be:
- I can't do it
- I don't have the time
- I am too busy
- No one is interested
Do these examples look familiar to you? Maybe you caught yourself here and you made an excuse like these before well.
I surely did make excuses before! That is just human. The reasons can be different. They could be
- "I don't want to watch that film."
- "I prefer to stay at home today."
- "I could actually work on my business to earn the extra income, but I would like a family day."
- "I don't know what to do or how to get started."
To stop making excuses and to move forward with your goal, you have to ....
Identify your excuses: The first step to stopping making excuses is to identify them. What are the excuses you make often? Once you know what your excuses are, you can start to challenge them.
Challenge your excuses: When you catch yourself making an excuse, ask yourself if it's really true. Is there really a good reason why you can't do something? Or are you just making an excuse to avoid taking action?
Take responsibility: Once you have identified and challenged your excuses, it's time to take some responsibility. Accept that you are the only one who is responsible for your actions and your life.
Set goals: One of the best ways to stop making excuses is to set goals. When you have goals, you have something to work towards. And when you have something to work towards, you are less likely to make excuses.
Take action: Once you have set goals, it's time to take action! Don't just sit around and make excuses! Get up and do something!
Be accountable: Hold yourself accountable for your actions. Don't make excuses when you don't meet your goals. Learn from your mistakes and keep moving forward.
Here are some tips for Stopping Making Excuses:
Be honest with yourself. The first step to stopping making excuses is to be honest with yourself about why you are making them. Are you afraid of failure? Are you afraid of success? Once you know the reason why you are making excuses, you can start to address the underlying issue.
Don't compare yourself to others. One of the biggest reasons people make excuses is because they are comparing themselves to others. They see someone else who is successful and they think, "I could never do that." But the truth is, everyone starts somewhere. Everyone has to start at the bottom and work their way up. So don't compare yourself to others. Just focus on your own journey and your own goals.
Don't be afraid to ask for help. If you are struggling to stop making excuses, don't be afraid to ask for help. Talk to a friend, family member, therapist, or coach. They can help you identify your excuses and develop strategies for overcoming them.
Celebrate your successes. When you achieve a goal, take some time to celebrate your success. This will help you stay motivated and keep moving forward.
Don't give up. Making excuses is a habit, and like any habit, it takes time to break. Don't get discouraged if you slip up and make an excuse. Just pick yourself up and keep going.
